Mike has congratulated residents and traders for coming together to make this year’s Brierley Hill in Bloom event a spectacular event.

Mike said that the “blooming wonderful” displays and fun day events show the community at its best, but that it’s just the beginning of a brighter future for the town.

Brierley Hill in Bloom has been an annual fixture in recent years, but this year’s project has been even more far reaching with more partners on-board and the addition of fun day activities to encourage local people to get involved and share their thoughts and hopes for the future of the town.

With key input from Shane Birch-Bastock (Brierley Hill in Bloom organiser and member of the Brierley Hill Community Forum), students from Dudley College who took on planting responsibilities, as well as Dudley CVS and Top Church Training run Harry’s Café who helped shape the fun day events, the event was dubbed a “true community effort”.

Mike Wood said:

“It was so great to see people out and about in the heart of the town. Speaking with each other, laughing with each other and discussing future events.”

“People have known for a few years that we’ve got some really big investments coming to Brierley Hill – and with works on the Metro now getting underway, there are going to be some very visible signs of it. But I think it’s still not quite yet appreciated just how strong of a community team there is here in this town.

“Fantastically passionate people giving their time, energy and input to improving what people can expect from a visit to Brierley Hill. And this successful Bloom event is testament to all of their efforts.”

Mike continued:

“With the investments secured and a true community effort behind shaping plans for the town, this really is just the beginning of a brighter future for Brierley Hill.”

The new Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Anne Millward, was guest of honour at the event.

Other members of the Brierley Hill Community Forum were also in attendance, including Chairman Tim Sunter and newly elected Brierley Hill Councillor Adam Davies; as well as children and staff from Brierley Hill Primary who proudly invited the Mayor for a visit to see their own flowery display.
